My grandma still has no clue what I do for a living. The same goes for a lot of my family. Other the other hand, Willow knows precisely. I had always hoped to find someone that was as driven and dedicated as I was… and I did.
When you’re working with your partner, it means you both truly understand the magnitude of your accomplishments and the achievability of your dreams. You can celebrate together, cry together, and push each other forward.
I think running a business brings relationships a lot closer. That’s not to say it can’t be tough, but as long as you have a healthy relationship, running a business together can improve your communication and trust in one another!
We Decide
Willow and I make our own flexible schedules, which means coordinating vacations, time off, and even our daily routines is unbelievably easy.
This would never be possible if we didn’t work together. If we wanted to take a vacation, we’d have to plan a year or months in advance. There’s really no disadvantage to making your own schedule.
The same can be said about life decisions. Since we have so much flexibility, we get to travel more and experience things that people working a 9-5 don’t (like spontaneously deciding to take a month off and travel Europe).
For example, Willow loves strategy. On the other hand, I love design (I mean, you could of guessed that).
We Tag-Team
Because we’re both in the business, when one of us has an ‘off’ week, the other can easily step in, pick up, and just ‘go’ with it. We also hold each other to the same expectations, ensuring we’re accountable.
Willow is basically my hypeman and partner all-in-one—and that’s awesome. When working with your partner, you’re able to pick up each other’s slack, and be really transparent about your skills and weaknesses.
The Cons of Working With Your Partner
Just like anything, if there are pros, there are cons. Here are the top three drawbacks to working with your partner.
We’re All In
When you’re passionate about what you do, your business can be all-consuming. But when we both live and breathe it every day… it’s next level.
If Willow and I have struggled with anything, it’s being able to turn off our professional lives. When part of your business relies on social media, it’s tempting to be on your phone all the time. It’s so easy. But, this can quickly (no, really, SO quickly) turn into a habit that’s hard to break.
So, give yourself a break; take time off. You don’t need to work yourself to death trying to build your brand… It’s supposed to be fun, remember?
Speaking of building brands (and having fun), if you’re ready to take the next step in building your creative web design business, you should check out my Wealthy Web Designer Course. You’ll everything about how to source clients, build a marketing funnel, and create an elegant customer experience.
We’re Together ALL THE TIME
While we’ve leveled up since our 550-square-foot apartment, our lives are so intertwined we can’t help but be in each other’s space almost 24/7.
For some people, this might become a real problem… I mean, everyone needs their alone time eventually. So, make sure to keep this in mind. You’ll both need time to decompress and take breaks from the other person.
We Can Keep the World Out
Willow and I are on that hustle, which means we’re so driven to action our dreams that we’ll let go of anything that threatens to stop that happening. An unfortunate side effect is that it can lead us to shut out the people and things that give us joy.
Success was never a question for me. Even after dropping out of high school and living the “digital nomad” lifestyle with absolutely no plan in place, I knew for a fact that there were big things waiting for me. When I found the online space in 2016, everything clicked. Starting as a VA, I finally found something that I could do while traveling the world (which is all I’ve ever really wanted out of life). But despite the fact that I was no longer tied down to a place of work, I was still limited in my income and feeling creatively unfulfilled. When I finally decided to allow myself to be the passionate creative that I am deep down, and took the plunge into the world of website design, everything changed for me. I work on my own time, with unlimited income potential, designing websites for passionate entrepreneurs, and I can teach you to do the same.
If you’re wondering where life could take you as a creative who feels allergic to the 9-5 lifestyle, I’d like to welcome you into my family. I gave a resounding “f*ck no” to the “traditional” a long time ago, and I’ve seen just how beautiful it can be when you chase your passions and turn them into massive profit.
150+ websites, 1,300+ students, and MILLIONS of dollars earned by my students… that’s a recipe for living a life that you’re excited to brag about.
