Time blocking revolutionized the way I approach my weeks, killed burnout, and, took my profitability to a whole new level. Now I’m teaching you how to implement time blocking into your business to achieve the same results.
Real-talk coming up in 3-2-1…
‘Busy’ isn’t an excuse.
It’s not an excuse to:
Miss deadlines
Leave your clients in the lurch
Run on empty (emotionally, physically, creatively)
Fall out of love with your business
Stop growing your brand
Because here’s the thing: Everyone is busy, babe. Especially online entrepreneurs, done-for-you service providers, and creative CEOs.
And if you can’t beat the ‘busy’, then it’s time to manage it instead. With a little something called: time blocking. It’s the time management technique that truly allowed me to increase profitability, maximize productivity and reduce stress in a way I never thought possible.
How can you do the same? Well, in this blog post, we’ll talk about everything you need to know to start time blocking today, tomorrow… and for the rest of your life!
We’ll cover:
What is time blocking?
The benefits of time blocking.
How to implement it into your weekly routine.
Examples from my own time blocked schedule.
So you can:
→ Implement time blocking into your schedule like a boss
→ Maximize your weekly output without burning out or working 20-hour days
→ Boost profitability by prioritizing your creative energy
→ Save brain space and reduce stress by organizing your week like a CEO
Trust me, once you start time blocking, you’ll never go back. Let’s not waste another minute…
1. WHAT IS TIME BLOCKING?
Mozart told us, “The shorter way to do many things is to only do one thing at a time”, and I couldn’t think of a better way to sum up time blocking.
Defined? Time blocking is the act of organizing your day into blocks of time dedicated to accomplishing specific, categorized tasks (rather than approaching your to-do list with zero structure or prioritization).
Time blocking relies on a few things to be successful, like:
Reviewing your previous week and observing the next week’s priorities in advance.
Taking stock of the week ahead, such as:
Clients and projects
Life commitments
Personal goals
Reflecting at the end of each workday – looking at what was accomplished, and what wildcard tasks need to be completed the following day.
Reducing distractions, and remaining committed to your schedule (while keeping some space for the unexpected)
2. BENEFITS OF TIME BLOCKING
Marketing, retainer clients, one-off projects, lead nurturing, onboarding, onboarding, offers, launches, accounting, health, hobbies, date nights. And that’s not even half the story of entrepreneurship.
Time blocking takes those tasks and puts them onto paper, ensuring there’s time for everything that matters in your week.
The benefits of time blocking for online business owners (like website designers) include:
Organizing and reducing the stress associated with managing different projects, clients, projects, and goals at once.
Replacing a reactive business approach with a proactive one (such as responding to emails or messages at dedicated times, as opposed to addressing them as they come in).
Removing interruptions, haphazardly scheduled meetings throughout the week.
Ensuring enough space in the week to set and reach goals, get creative, and enjoy the big-picture thinking of running a creative online business.
Promoting time awareness
Focusing on deep work, as opposed to shallow, low-quality output.
Combatting perfectionism, procrastination, and multitasking.
So how can you achieve the same in your business?
3. HOW TO IMPLEMENT TIME BLOCKING IN YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS
Start by carving out time for you, first and foremost.
I love to designate an entire day to just me (and my business). I call it a ‘CEO Day’. For me, this falls on a Monday, giving me a generous three-day weekend and a whole lot of agency over how I kick off my week.
On a ‘CEO Day’, I:
DO NOT book any meetings
DO focus on business growth strategies
DO NOT answer emails, DMs, or other business-related correspondence
DO create marketing content
DO NOT touch any client work
DO get into my ‘Creative CEO’ time – ideating new freebies, reels, offers, and launches
DO NOT allow myself to work to the later hours unless I’m truly feeling it
Taking your CEO day into account, plan out how many hours you can realistically dedicate to your clients that week. Consider when your energy, creativity, and motivation are highest (and lowest), then delegate in line with this.
Here’s a little example…
Let’s say you’ve got four clients to pour your focus into this week.
Start by listing out all the tasks you need to complete for each client (and your business). That includes things like:
Onboarding
Create branding board
Devise brand strategy
Send home page draft
Team meetings
Sales and/or client calls
Launching
Revisions and feedback
Showing up on social media
3. Review each task, and determine a realistic amount of time it’ll take you to complete each one, for each client.
4. Prioritize your client’s projects based on deadlines, allocating time across the week accordingly.
In just one week, you’ve massively advanced four clients’ projects, while focusing on yourself and your business without burnout.
And as for how this can look in action…
4. EXAMPLE OF A TIME BLOCKED SCHEDULE AS A WEBSITE DESIGNER
Here’s how time blocking one week’s worth of work as a web designer can look:
Overwhelming schedule? Gone.
Chaotic to-do-list? Eliminated.
Clarity and organization? Good as new.
With time blocking, there’s room for allocating breaks, and self-care, as much as there is client work and business progression. All it takes is a little forethought, a whole lot of prioritization, and knowing your most productive self.
Busy isn’t an excuse to stop pursuing your dreams and meeting your expectations, especially now you know:
We’ll cover:
What time blocking is.
The benefits of time blocking.
How to implement it into your weekly routine
And with that? Now you can:
→ Implement time-blocking like a boss.
→ Maximize your weekly output.
→ Boost profitability.
→ Save brain space and reduce stress.
All to ultimately become your most productive self.
