My Story Of Building a Profitable Business
In 2014, I dropped out of high school. I started working as a waitress, trying to make enough money to be able to travel the world—live out my lifelong goal as a digital nomad. But, it was sustainable. I couldn’t make enough money to pay rent as a waitress, let alone travel the world. So, in 2016, I jumped into the world of online services—as a virtual assistant.
At first, I loved the flexibility and freedom. But I quickly realized it wasn’t enough. The work wasn’t creatively fulfilling, and frankly, I was still being underpaid. I stuck with VAing to sustain my income while starting to learn everything about running a profitable online business.
Next, I found the world of web design. I built my first website on WordPress and sold it for a little over $1k. While it was great, I found WordPress clunky and slow. So I looked for alternatives. That’s when I found Showit, the Canva of web design. In short, Showit is the most versatile, easy-to-use, and customizable option I’ve found on the market.

My Tips For Future Web Designers
Here’s what I recommend doing to overcome the hurdles of starting an online business:
- Learn Everything You Can About Being an Entrepreneur: I wish that there were as many resources around when I started my business. Instead, I had to learn from my own mistakes. - Set Yourself Apart: As a web designer, you want to style that speaks to clients. When I first started, I was one of the few creatives building boho sites. To this day, my template shop is still called Bold x Boho because that’s my vibe.
