We’re all about organic marketing. Since starting our business, we’ve only spent $13 on ads—seriously. If you’ve come to learn how you can grow your business organically in 2023, this is the place to start.
We focus our attention on Pinterest, TikTok, and Instagram—so that’s where we’ll spend today. From our experience, each of these platforms brings an insane amount of traffic, exposure, and sales. It’s also how we’ve found and connected with our dream clients.
So, let’s get into how exactly you can grow your organic traffic in 2023.
How To Get More Eyes on Your Pinterest?
Here are three ways to get a bigger organic following on Pinterest.

Learn (and Follow) the Rules
Pinterest is a search engine rather than a social media platform. It’s all about following the rules they set in place. These include a descriptive title, description, and images. However exciting you can make it, be sure your content isn’t clickbait—Pinterest can hold you against this! Seriously, the word “click” shouldn’t be on your designs!

Be Active
I recommend just getting active on Pinterest. It’s really a volume game, so the more content you have out there, the better. White quality is great; this is the few places quantity is better.
You can use Tailwind to schedule your posts on Pinterest. And luckily for you, Pinterest is one of the only social platforms that are fully okay with automation. Our completely not-sponsored (and bias-free) opinion is that Tailwind is the best tool to use with Pinterest. It’s what we’ve used since day one and continue to use.
Speaking of being active, be active in your career: here are four tips to level up your web design career in 2023.
Learn From Your Audience
Let’s say you have an eBook that you want to push out on Pinterest. Create 4-10 graphics for it with slightly different descriptions, titles, and slight variations of the design. You can use different colors, fonts, images, and templates.
Eventually, you’ll start to notice what does better, and you can tailor that knowledge to future designs. Use it to create a top-notch social strategy.
You can do this on all social media platforms. Reflect on what’s connecting with your audience and use to your advantage. For Pinterest, focus on links to your freebie, your sales pages, or your product pages.
Everything About Growing on Instagram in 2023
Instagram has changed so much since we first started using it for our business in 2018. The algorithm seems to get an update every week, and strategies are adjusted accordingly. Someone’s always telling you what to do and what not to do—and it always contradicts! So here’s what we found that works.
Being Consistent
I work with almost every single one of my clients on how to be consistent. First, set a goal of how many times you want to post to your story per day—my suggestion is 3 to start. Sure, it might be intimidating, but they don’t have to all be videos talking to your camera. They actually shouldn’t all be like that.
Your posts should be about things you’re doing with your clients. If you’re not at the point of having clients yet, it should be about what you’re doing and what makes you unique. Even if you think it’s mundane. Show your portfolio, and brag about it. Even if you only have 3 or 4 people watching, I guarantee if you post a picture of your dog, someone else with a dog will respond to you. People love connection.
You can be more consistent with a strategy. What time are you dedicating to posting? Is it on a calendar? What’s reminding you? Learn some of our strategy tips here.
Setting Brand Pillars
I recommend setting brand pillars as soon as you’re ready to set a content strategy. Maybe even before! You should set five brand pillars in total—three should be about business, and two things should be personal.
For example, one of my brand pillars is travel. People think of myself and Willow as travelers, and we share a lot of our travels on social media. Another brand pillar is family. We share about our relationship, our home, and our dogs. Finally, I have two pillars for my business—one that’s content marketing and one about education.
Instagram is about acknowledging your brand pillars, being consistent with posting, and posting at least 3 times per day on your story. Let people follow you and your life. It might sound cheesy, but it works.

Marketing Your Business Organically on TikTok
I started posting very promotional content about my Wealthy Web Designer and CEO of Showit course. The results were mind-blowing. Over the first 21 days, I generated 3,800 new email sign-ups, and I sold $35,000 worth of courses. And it was all generated from TikTok.
Within a week-and-a-half after starting TikTok, Willow had three viral videos and hit 10,000 followers. So, the reach is insane. It’s a whole new demographic of people that are hungry to learn.
Here’s what we recommend:
1. Join the Creator Program
A while after I started my account, TikTok asked me to join their creator program. It’s an educational mentorship section of TikTok, and you can make additional income with it! To be able to join the program, you need at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 views. These numbers can be scary, but they shouldn’t be. All you need is one viral video.
Social media is where I met Alice Watts, fellow web designer. She recently reviewed our Showit Canvas Library Review.
2. Interact on the Platform
Go on TikTok and start following a few people. Start playing around with what you want your ideal client to stumble upon. Take inspiration from people you like—use the trends. Be fun and be playful. Just go in and try. It’s okay if it takes you a few tries. Embrace that it’s awkward. Everyone feels that awkwardness.
Our Biggest Take-Away
Whatever you do, be consistent on these platforms. Use them how it’s right for you because it can be powerful. Make sure your backend stuff is all setup. People can go viral on TikTok and not make any money because they don’t have anything to book them into or a freebie to get them on your email list.
The more you grow on social media, the more eyes you will have on your brand. You don’t want your social media to be a dead end. You need somewhere for those potential clients to go so social media can really serve your business growth. Last tip – I know it’s a little played-out, but also just be authentic on your social media.
